From Oct. 12 to 19, an interview with Mandracchia will be available by podcast at www.theoceancountylibrary.org.
The New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge will be held Oct. 17 and 18 when 11 landbased lighthouses and two 1st order Fresnel lenses housed in museums all will be open at the same time to welcome visitors. Each will offer challengers a free souvenir token unique to that site with a special memento for those completing the challenge. While most lighthouses can be climbed, it is not necessary to do so to participate in the challenge. There is no charge to participate in challenge, but participants must provide their own transportation.
Ocean County Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari who serves as liaison to both the Ocean County Library System and the county Tourism Council praised the partnership, saying, "We are happy to promote public awareness of these great beacons and their maritime heritage as well as support a unique and quality family event such as the New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge."
