OCEAN COUNTY’S 44 miles of ocean beaches are open and businesses are ready to greet visitors this week and on Labor Day weekend.
“We welcome vacationers back to Ocean County, New Jersey” said Freeholder Director Joseph H. Vicari. “Our roads to the barrier islands are open, the weather forecast is good and we expect an excellent weekend from Point Pleasant Beach and Seaside Heights to Long Beach Island.”
Vicari said he has visited several beach communities and talked with local business owners who have quickly rebounded from Hurricane Irene and are ready to welcome guests.
“I’m inviting everyone to come to Ocean County and enjoy our attractions before heading back to school and work next week,” Vicari said.
Freeholder James F. Lacey, liaison to the Ocean County Road Department, said crews have been out removing fallen trees and branches from the county’s roads.
“All the shore roads are open and in good shape,” Lacey said. “I hope everyone enjoys their vacations.”
In many ways, the impact from the storm was worse in inland communities than along the ocean, Vicari said.
“It was an unusual storm in that there was more rain and flooding away from the coast,” he said. “That’s bad news for many of our residents but good news for the beaches, which were spared the brunt of the hurricane.”
Vicari said, “This is 'Super September' in Ocean County because we have so many special events and festivals happening. Folks visiting the area will have a wide array of activities to enjoy.”
