Cattus Island Nature FestivalCattus Island Nature Festival - Celebrating 30 Years TOMS RIVER – Ocean County Freeholder John C. Bartlett, Jr. is pleased to announce the 30th annual Cattus Island Nature Festival taking place at Cattus Island County Park, Toms River on Sunday, October 3, 2010, from 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM. The Cattus Island Nature Festival is an annual celebration of Natural Science Education at Cattus Island County Park. The entire day will be full of exciting educational activities such as van and boat tours, nature walks, seining, kayak trips, lectures and children’s programs. A variety of exhibitors including a food vendor will be on hand and there will be live music throughout the day. Nature Walk Topics The Rotten World of Fungi 10:00AM Scavenger Hunt Walk 11:00AM The Nature of Cattus Island 1:00PM A Guided Dog Walk 1:30PM Saltmarsh Stomp 3:00PM Lectures Mosquitoes presented by Ocean County Mosquito Commission at 11:00AM Butterfly Garden Basics presented by Cattus Island County Park Staff 11:00am and 2:30pm Don’t Worry be “Hoppy” presented by Jenkinson’s Aquarium at 12:00pm State of the Bay presented by The Barnegat Bay Partnership at 1:00pm Protect America’s Wildlife presented by Defenders of Wildlife at 2:00pm Boat Tours, Van Tours & Kayak Tours Boat Tours will run hourly beginning at 9:00am Children ages 4 years and older NO EXCEPTIONS Kayak Tours will be available at 8am, 10am, noon and 2pm. Participants must be 14 years of age Van Tours will begin promptly on the hour at 9:00am Kids Programs Fish Printing 10am, 12pm and 2pm Native American Nature Stories 10:30am & 2:00pm Little Sprouts Scavenger Hunt 11:00am Flower Power 12:30pm The Great Bug Race 1:00pm Nature Twister 2:00pm Barnegat Bay Memory 3:00pm Seining Silver Bay The seining program will be held from 10:00am to 3:00pm A shuttle van will be available between 10:00am & 3:00pm The van, boat, and kayak tours require advanced registration, beginning at 7:00 AM on October 3rd in the Cooper Environmental Center. All activities are FREE and open to the public. This event is accessible to all individuals. Reasonable assistance/accommodations are available with prior notice.
