Black Sea Bass

Black Sea Bass are highly sought after fish; easy to catch, easy to clean and very tasty. Black Sea bass are mostly caught during the summer months,   and are most often found on rocky bottoms, pilings, jetties or fishing one of the many artificial reefs along the Jersey Shoreline.   The fish move into deeper depths of approximately 250 feet during the winter

They are bottom dwellers and are members of the “Serranidae” family that includes sea bass and groupers.  They can grow to a maximum of  24-25 inches in length and can weigh as much as 8 lbs.

Black sea bass typically feed on crabs, mussels, razor clams, and other fish.

Bottom fishing from boats near structure (rocks, wrecks, and reefs) using squid and other natural baits works best to catch these fish.

Note: Always check the most current rules and regulations before going fishing.
