Barnegat Light Region
Barnegat Light is located on the northern tip of Long Beach Island. It offers excellent recreational fishing and is the home of the Barnegat Lighthouse, the second tallest lighthouse in the country. It contributes greatly to New Jersey's fishermen; it's recreational fishing can keep you entertained for hours. The Barnegat Light's historic Viking fishing village is a row of tiny fishing shacks that have been turned into shops where you can purchase architectural finds, antiques, precious gems and jewelry. A group of Scandinavian fishermen who immigrated here in 1920's, chose Barnegat Light because it reminded them so much of their homeland. Fresh fish can be purchased daily.
Activities include: Ocean beach for swimming with lifegaurds, Rafting, Surfing. Beach Fee, and Ocean Fishing
Every Friday at 10am, the Viking Village offers free one hour tours of the commercial fishing dock. Reservations are required.
